Because of the virus, we are forced to live within certain limits and boundaries that we have never experienced before. Almost everyone works from home, eats home, works out at home, and relaxes at home. If the new 24-hour routine of being next to your partner is slowly damaging your relationship, you need to do something about it! Read through our tips and see if they can help you turn the apartment battlefield into your Budapest dream home again.

Before 2020, most couples complained of the fact that they work a lot, that everyday life is so busy, that they could barely see each other, and they would happily spend more time together. Then the coronavirus came and turned everything upside down. The months-long curfew, initially was welcomed but now it has become frustrating. The home office and all the canceled concerts, events and parties have shrunk our world into small capsules for two. Social life has plummeted to zero, and continuous coexistence is a test for even the most stable, balanced relationships.

If you also feel that the delicate eco-system in your home is going out of balance, do not ignore the problems. Believe us, with a few clever ideas and changes, you can give each other the right amount of space and distance even in a Flatco studio style apartment! Letu2019s see what you can do if you’re stuck inside your home!

Together, yet separate

Work in a separate room! Thereu2019s nothing more confusing than when you canu2019t hear your own thoughts because of each otheru2019s conference meetings. A workstation can easily fit in the corner of the bedroom, while the kitchen table can, of course, magically transform into an office. Take a coffee break together so you donu2019t feel alone, but give each other enough space so both of you can work efficiently!

Get organized, schedule! If your partner needs silence for their morning yoga class, just take over the bathroom! A warm shower or bath, a facial cleansing routine, manicure, and you’re full way through the 60 minutes. Later, if you want to be a little bit alone, your partner for sure will move happily to the bedroom.

Divide the tasks! You can avoid a lot of tension by organizing the house chores, divide the tasks, discuss who is in charge of which task. For example, if one of you is cooking, the other will set the table and wash the dishes, if one of you will do the shopping, the other will do the vacuuming. If you want to live in peace, balance is necessary and equal responsibilities sharing, so letu2019s play as a team!

But, spend time together as well! Donu2019t avoid each other all day (it wonu2019t work anyway), but discuss common programs. Have lunch together and in the evening watch the next episode of your favorite series, sit out on the balcony to chat – and donu2019t be afraid to say that it has been a hard month!

Get creative! Rearrange the living room, spruce up the bedroom wall with a fun DIY paint, search for a new sofa. Plan and create together because from these little projects both of you can benefit. You can find a few beginner ideas on the Flatco blog.

It’s more spacious out there!

Take advantage of the extra possibilities of Flatco flats: while the average apartments in Budapest are usually dark flats with no exit to a garden area, our properties have a spacious, sunny balcony. If you feel you need to be alone, snuggle into a warm blanket, sip a cup of hot tea, watch a video, or just listen to your favorite music – youu2019ll see that in half an hour you will go back to the living room rejuvinated.

Besides, the newly built residential parks were designed with practicality in mind, so they also have some green areas. A green inner courtyard or small park might even have a few sports fields that are just a step away from your home, it would be a shame to miss them! Meet your neighbors, exchange a few words with your acquaintances, move your body, and blow off the steam. Then send your partner down and enjoy being in the apartment alone, for just an hour!
